Beginning of the Year Highlights

I started the year with a lot of cooperative activities such as textbook scavenger hunt, find somebody who? and students put together a puzzle of the United States as an introduction to Social Studies.  Here are the pics.  I was real impressed by how well they worked together.

Big Honor

Well fresh from Parents weekend at UConn.  My administrators show up at my door with flowers, telling me that I have the honor of being nominated Distinguished Reading Teacher of the Year.  I was speechless, but my class was not.  They kept up their normal chatter while I was getting my picture taken.  What a great way to end a Monday. 

Room set up

Finally  downloaded pictures.  Here are the pre student pics of my room.  I usually set my desk up in one big circle to promote community for the first three weeks and then I move to a cooperative group set up. This year with 24 students I decided to go with semi circles.  It looked like a college lecture hall.
